The Golden State Warriors will host a Chinese New Year celebration at Oracle Arena during the team's game on Tuesday, February 4 against the Charlotte Bobcats, it was announced today. Warriors players will wear specially designed Chinese New Year shooting shirts, honoring the Year of the Horse, from adidas (see attached photo), the league's official on court apparel outfitter. The evening will also feature a Chinese New Year theme with a halftime lion and dragon dance performance by We Fly High and a pregame performance by Chinese Fan and Ribbon Dancers. The event will also feature Chinese drummers, lion dancers, stilt walkers and special Chinese cuisine throughout the Oracle Arena concourse, as well as personalized introduction cards on the videoboard with each player's Chinese characters.
To further celebrate Chinese New Year, on Saturday, February 8, the Warriors Junior Jam dance team will perform at the Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Southwest Airlines Basketball Jamboree in San Francisco's Chinatown district (1199 Mason Street, San Francisco CA 94108) from 10:40 a.m. to 11:15 a.m.The Warriors celebration of Chinese New Year is a part of a larger campaign by the NBA to celebrate the holiday with its largest international fanbase from Jan. 28 to Feb. 4, which touches millions of fans in China, the U.S. and Canada. The Year of the Horse celebration will include 23 unique live games broadcast and streamed in China and 10 teams will honor the holiday during games in their market. This is the third year of the campaign, which has reached 96 million viewers and 107 million viewers in China the last two years, respectively.
As part of the NBA Global Games this preseason, the Warriors took on the Los Angeles Lakers in Beijing on October 15 (1-0) and Shanghai on October 18 (1-0) and launched a Warriors Chinese website warriors.com/china. The site features content from the team's trip to China; content from this summer's NBA Tours where guard Klay Thompson and forward Harrison Barnes visited China to promote the NBA Global Games; along with Warriors team content including stats, rosters, schedules, game recaps, news, community efforts and more.
On December 30, Warriors guard Stephen Curry conducted a Q&A with his Weibo followers where in a 24 hour period, the first tune-in post attracted 2.6 million impressions and more than 3,500 questions collected.
