BROOKLYN - His numbers hardly jump off the page.

But Jason Collins has never cared much for his own stats. This is the number, the only one, Collins cares about:

Since joining the team on Feb. 23, the Nets are 8-2 with Collins.

So why mess with success?

The Nets signed Collins for the remainder of the season on Saturday. He had signed a first 10-day deal on Feb. 23 and a second 10-day contract on March 5.

"It's cool,’’ Collins told reporters in Washington. “Thank you to the Nets organization, coaches and players."

The 7-foot, 255-pound center has averaged 0.6 points, 0.8 rebounds and 2.3 fouls in 9.8 minutes.

The Nets (33-30) play the Wizards (34-31) tonight (7:30 p.m., YES) in Washington. If the playoffs started today the Nets would have the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference, one spot ahead of Washington.
